2009 Holden Commodore Omega

Holden's much loved Commodore range which recently celebrated its 30th birthday has received a welcoming upgrade for the 2009 model year. The Omega and Berlina models featuring an Alloytec V6 engine boasts improved fuel efficiency of up to 0.4 litres per 100 kilometres for petrol models and 1.3 litres per 100 kilometres for LPG variants.

By reducing noxious tailpipe emissions, the upgraded all-alloy V6 engine now achieves the highest Green Vehicle Guide noxious emissions score possible (8.5 points out of 10), excluding electric vehicles.

The noxious emission levels meet Euro VI certification, a standard which does not come into effect in Europe until 2014.

The improvement in efficiency and noxious emissions sees petrol Omega and Berlina models achieve an overall Green Vehicle Guide score of 13.5 points, giving these models a solid 3.5 star rating.

GM Holden Director of Powertrain, Ernie Tamburrini said: “The upgrade to this V6 engine was to enable improved fuel economy and reduced emissions without sacrificing real world performance."

More specifically, fuel consumption of the petrol Commodore sedan is reduced by 0.2 litres per 100 kilometres and the Ute and Sportwagon by 0.4 litres per 100 kilometres.

The engine upgrade will provide the most benefits to drivers looking for an alternative fuel option, with dramatic improvements on LPG converted vehicles.

Fuel efficiency (ADR 81/01) of the LPG Commodore sedan improves from 15.5 litres per 100 kilometres to 14.2 litres per 100 kilometres.

With the introduction of the upgraded engine, LPG customers can enjoy the benefits even sooner with petrol-only run-in distances halved to just 500 kilometres.

GM Holden recently reduced the cost of its dual fuel LPG system by $1500 on Commodore Omega, Berlina, and Omega Ute. This means for private buyers eligible for the $2000 government rebate, the net cost of an LPG Ute would only be $1400 more than its petrol equivalent and only $400 more for the LPG sedan.

The monthly LPG conversion rate will increase in November to meet growing demand.

The petrol engine in the Omega and Berlina models delivers peak power of 175 kW at 6500rpm and peak torque of 325Nm at 2400rpm and is matched with a four-speed automatic transmission.

The upgraded Alloytec V6 engine will be standard on all Omega and Berlina Commodore, Sportwagon and Ute variants from November production.

Mitsubishi GLX Triton

Mitsubishi has added a 2.5-litre Common Rail Direct Injection Diesel engine GLX Triton model to its popular two-wheel drive Triton utility range.

Generating 100 kW of power at 3800rpm and a handy 314 Nm of torque at 2000rpm, the new 16-valve inter-cooled turbo 2.5-litre diesel Triton is best suited to small business owners, couriers and trades people who require safe, comfortable and economical transport for both business and private use.

The 2.5-litre Common Rail Diesel engine combines power, efficiency, durability and reliability, and fuel efficiency with low vibration and engine noise.

Welcoming the addition to the popular Triton utility line-up, Robert McEniry, president and chief executive officer of Mitsubishi said: “Over the last twelve months, Mitsubishi has enjoyed a 40 per cent sales increase in the two-wheel drive utility segment, thanks to the arrival of our 2.4-litre petrol engine variant early last year. With today’s high fuel prices and the increased focus on environmental efficiencies, the new 2.5-litre diesel Triton model offers yet another economical option to our two-wheel drive utility customers."

The GLX Triton is fitted with Mitsubishi’s tried and tested front double wishbone coil suspension system with front stabilizer bars and rear leaf springs, with 16 inch front disc brakes and 11.6 inch rear drums with a 10 inch single master vacuum booster. These underpinnings, together with standard Electronic Brake Force Distribution, ensure the 2.5-litre diesel Triton range offers stable handling and a comfortable ride no matter what cargo the vehicle is carrying. Power steering is standard on all variants and the 2.5-litre diesel Triton delivers a tight 5.7 metre minimum turning radius for greater manoeuvrability and safety (11.8 metre turning circle).

Other equipment includes ABS and EBD, and Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body system with front crumple zones to absorb collision energy as well as reinforced supports, including side intrusion bars, to further protect the vehicle’s occupants.

Available in Cool Silver, Red Plant and Gunmetal metallic shades, Black Mica and Platoon pearlescent finishes and White, both single cab and dual cab body styles are also available in the new diesel Triton priced from $22,990 for the single cab model, and $28,990 for the dual cab model.
